Sweden had about 2,500 Indian students as of January 2025 according to India's Ministry of External Affairs, and 1,350 new students arrived from India in 2024/25, the second largest group from outside Europe. Graduates can apply for a residence permit of up to one year to look for work.

Swedish official statistics from UKA and Statistics Sweden show 1,260 new Indian freemover students in 2024/25, second only to China, and 1,190 new fee-paying students from India. India was also the second largest country for new international master's programme students, with 950. Indian and Chinese freemover students were the largest groups among international students graduating for the first time in 2024/25, with 880 each. After completing a bachelor's or master's degree, graduates can be granted a residence permit of up to one year to look for work.
