India is the largest source of international degree students in Latvia. In 2024/25 more than a quarter (27.9%) of mobile students had previous education in India.
The community
Eurostat counts 2,643 students from India in Latvia in 2023/24, and India's Ministry of External Affairs reports 2,708 as of January 2025. According to the Central Statistical Bureau of Latvia, 27.9% of Latvia's roughly 11,000 mobile students in 2024/25 came from India, ahead of Uzbekistan (9.6%) and Sweden (9.0%). About three quarters (75.4%) of mobile students from India are men.
