Lithuania is one of the larger Baltic destinations for Indian students, with 1,557 enrolled as of January 2025 according to India's Ministry of External Affairs. Indians are the largest national group holding study-based residence permits in the country.
The community
India's Ministry of External Affairs counted 1,557 Indian students in Lithuanian universities as of 1 January 2025. Lithuania's Migration Department reported in September 2024 that nearly 1,400 Indian citizens were studying in the country, more than any other nationality, and that Indians had received 668 new study-based residence permits that year, also the most of any nationality. Invest Lithuania reports 248 fintech companies established in the country.
Lithuania ranks first in the EU by number of financial licences issued (EMI, PI and related licences), according to Invest Lithuania citing Bank of Lithuania data for end 2023. Source
