Italy is one of the larger continental European destinations for Indian students, and India is the fourth-largest country of origin of internationally mobile tertiary students there. Graduates can apply for a residence permit of 9 to 12 months to look for work or start a business.
The community
Eurostat counted 6,143 mobile tertiary students from India in Italy in 2024, more than double the 3,021 recorded in 2019. Only Iran, Türkiye and China sent more. India's Ministry of External Affairs reports 5,196 Indian students in Italian universities as of January 2025.
